Different Stroller Fold Types Demystified & Explained

Thursday, Jan 1, 1970 | Post by Jané

As a parent you quickly learn how important the small details become. Details like the fold of a stroller become make it or break it when you have a crying child on your hip in a downpour outside of a grocery store. Knowing what folds are available and what you need are essential parts of the stroller buying process.

Not all strollers are alike and because of this they each have a unique fold. The umbrella fold is one that most people can picture in their minds. Engage the brakes and lift the folding mechanism located behind the hammock seat and the stroller will begin to collapse onto itself with the front wheels and handles gathering for a compact fold.

You also may know the flat fold which is very traditional, with the brake engaged you simply release the frame lock and your stroller collapses, hammock and all, to a neat fold with no extra pieces.

Then there is the 3D fold which sounds very high-tech but simply put means that with the hammock removed you can release the frame lock and various parts of your stroller fold from the top and bottom into a compressed package.

There are also two-piece folds in which a part of the stroller, typically the hammock seat, must be removed prior to the fold taking place, once the part is remove and the brake is engaged you release the frame lock and the stroller will close upon itself in various fashions depending on the manufacturer.

Jané USA prides itself on the research and design that goes into making each of the Jané strollers different from the rest of the marketplace. Nanuq, Jané’s umbrella stroller folds neatly and easily and features a handle for smooth transport and a footstand for compact upright storage. Rider, Jané’s traditional stroller has a patented folding system which reduces the size of the stroller by 30% when folded. It is unique in that the Rider can be folded easily with the seat forward facing, rear facing or removed completely. Trider Extreme is Jané’s newest stroller and features similar folding features of the Rider, it can also be folded with the seat in the forward or rear facing positions or removed all together. Both the Rider and the Trider Extreme feature quick release wheels allowing the frames to compress into a neat little package that is easy to transport or store.

Jané USA knows how important details like the fold of stroller can be and when you purchase a Jané stroller you can rest assured that your focus will not be on the details.
